The Weekenders

The Weekenders was a 1992 sitcom written by and starring Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer. It was their first show since they decided to end their previous success Vic Reeves Big Night Out, and was also their first attempt at a sitcom. The show brought out some of the most surreal and impenetrable situations that Vic and Bob had written so far, which perhaps was a factor in the series progressing no further than a pilot.

Bunch of FiveEdit

In 1992, Channel 4 commissioned a series of five sitcom pilots from several comedy writers; the most popular of which would become a full series in its own right. The shows in the series were:

  • Shall We Gather At The River?
  • Miles Better
  • Blue Heaven by Frank Skinner
  • Dead at Thirty by Paul Whitehouse & Charlie Higson
  • The Weekenders by Bob Mortimer & Jim Moir

Blue Heaven was eventually picked up and ran for one series, but nothing more came of The Weekenders.
